about folks farm

Stemming from some of the most unlikely coincidences (read a little more about our story below), Folks Farm & Market has been an ongoing restoration project of a historic peach and apple orchard in Burlington County, New Jersey. Since its founding, hundreds of new fruit trees have gone into the ground, and the fields are back to growing heirloom tomatoes, vegetables, and whatever the season feels like giving us.

These days, the farm is a busy, lively place. Thousands of people come through each year for insanely flavored produce, intentional classes, seasonal gatherings, and whatever other farmmy surprises we are able to cook up behind the scenes. It feels, to us at least, a liminal place - equal parts sore feet, sunburn, muddy boots, fussy kids, peach fuzz itch AND breathtaking sunsets, deep human connection, feeling at home, and peaches we dream about nightly.

deep roots → new growth

Though many in our town have shown excitement about something “new” starting here, long before we set foot on this land, the farm stretched across hundreds of acres in Cinnaminson and Moorestown! Our 28 acre plot of land is all that remains of the original farm, and it is our hope to maintain its fertility and its vital role in serving and feeding our neighboring communities.

Farmed by one family since the late 1800s—the Reidenbakers, who still play an active role in the ownership of the farm—the land has long been cared for with integrity and a deep sense of family legacy. Over generations, it became a place where community and agriculture were closely intertwined.

honoring the land

Generations have cared for this soil with patience and grit. The work today continues that stewardship, with the hope that many more will follow.

The orchard’s next chapter began in a… well… unexpected way. In 2020, during a time when plans were changing quickly and certainty felt scarce, the land was discovered by local residents, Bryce and Annie Kulik, while searching for a quiet outdoor space to get married. With their initial wedding scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they drove up to the farm and flagged down landowner, John Reidenbaker and asked if they could come to his fields to be wed. He mowed them a small patch to have a ceremony and in exchange for his kindness, Bryce and Annie began picking peaches for him for free to help him farm his recently-inherited peach orchard.

What began as a single meaningful gathering gradually became a shared mission and vision for bringing new life to the rapidly declining orchard. In 2022, while facing immense development pressure from warehouse manufacturers, John made the decision to honor his family legacy and protect the historical farm. John, Annie, and Bryce formed a partnership and launched Folks Farm and Market as a restoration project to preserve the orchard and restore it to health, productivity, and community life.
